Description

Bunny School Felix's First Day by Hubrig Folk Art.

For untold generations the Easter bunny has hopped his way into the hearts of children young and old. First mentioned in German writings from the 1500s our long eared friend became a German spring tradition. One legend tells of a poor country woman who carefully decorated colorful eggs in the night for her little ones to discover in their small garden. The next morning as the children discovered the hidden treasures, a large rabbit was seen hopping away giving rise to the belief that the bunny had delivered them. Whatever the case German children were soon building small nests of grass and placing them in their gardens in hopes that if they were really good, the bunny might fill them with colorful eggs as well. Later the nests of grass gave way to upturned hats, and baskets. The popular Easter tradition sailed to America with the German immigrants in the 1700’s.

We are pleased and proud to offer a wonderful collection of brightly painted miniature bunnies from the forests of Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) Germany. Whether you select one unique piece or start a village each handcrafted wooden figure is sure to bring a smile to your face. Welcome to Hubrig’s Hasenland. (Rabbit Country)
