Goose Boy

There’s a quiet pond near Cowboy Creek where the geese gather like old travelers, pausing on their long journeys north and south. Among them wanders a boy from across the valley — small in stature, but wise in all things goose.

“Geese make the best guardians,” he once told me with great seriousness. “Sharp eyes, loud warnings, and beaks full of tiny teeth.” I confessed I had never considered such things.

He went on, bright‑eyed, “And they mate for life, you know. Loyal as the day is long.”

His name has slipped away like a feather on the wind, but the valley remembers him simply as Goose Boy — the lad who speaks the language of geese and carries a bit of their steadfast magic wherever he goes.
