Description
Around Cowboy Creek, Uncle Alan and Aunt Theresa’s garden is famous for feeding the whole family — tomatoes stacked like jewels, carrots pulled up with a snap, beans that climb toward the rafters, and zucchini so abundant you have to peek through the window shades before opening the door, just in case another loaf has been “generously delivered.”
But this year, something unusual stirred in the soil.
One late afternoon, the phone rang at the packing shed. Uncle Al’s voice came through, low and urgent: “Something’s wrong at the garden — come quick.” We dropped everything, climbed into the old truck, and rattled down the lane, expecting another zucchini prank.
Instead, he led us to the pumpkin patch.
And there it stood — a tall, peculiar pumpkin with a face that looked as though it had been carved by the wind itself. Its expression was equal parts mischief and wonder, the sort of look a pumpkin might wear if it had overheard a secret. No one knows where Uncle Al got his seeds, but around the Creek, magic has a habit of sprouting where you least expect it.
This vintage‑style Jack‑O’-Lantern, crafted by Bethany Lowe Designs, carries that same enchanted charm. Made of paper mâché with vellum glow‑through features, it bears the worn, well‑loved marks of the Primitive Collection — scuffs, blemishes, missing paint, and a rustic wire handle that swings like it’s been carried through many Halloweens.
Tall, whimsical, and full of story, it feels like a pumpkin that grew right out of a folktale.
