Potato Bug "Little Fry" with Washboard by Hubrig Folk Arts

The other night we were sitting around the kitchen table, when my nephew shared he thought he saw some of these little guys out in the garden today. He said, “according to this book Uncle Steve they’re pests.” I had to explain to him that here around the creek we referred to them as guests. I explained to him about the Kartoffel brothers Spudsy, Red, and Little Fry and how they showed up the same time each year for as long as I could remember, they set up camp in the middle of the potato crop, and played their sweet mountain music late into the summer nights.

Each wonderful piece is handcrafted in Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) region of Germany. Originally the people of the area made their living as coal miners, but when the coal deposits gave out they turned to the forests to make a living. Families began making their favorite figures and selling them in their homes or at local Christmas Markets, today they are sold around the world and are sought after collectibles. These fine art miniatures of wood are a perfect addition to any country décor and are sure to become family heirlooms.
