Description
he other night we were sitting around the kitchen table when my nephew announced he’d spotted some “pests” out in the garden. He held up a book to prove it, but I had to laugh. “Around the Creek,” I told him, “we don’t call them pests — we call them guests.”
Then I told him about the Kartoffel brothers: Spudsy, Red, and Little Fry. Every summer, like clockwork, they roll into the potato patch, set up camp, and play their sweet mountain music late into the warm evenings.
Little Fry here is the youngest of the trio — cheerful, rhythmic, and always ready with his trusty washboard. With his bright expression and hand‑painted charm, he looks like he’s keeping the whole Beetle Band in time, tapping out a beat that drifts across the garden rows.
A delightful member of Hubrig’s retired bug collection, this potato bug brings humor, warmth, and a touch of old‑fashioned country music to any spring or summer display. He plays wonderfully alongside the other bug musicians, especially his Kartoffel brothers.
