Description

If I ever want to know the scoop on any critter that takes to the air, my nephew Tristan is the one to ask. He knows the description, the color of their feathers, and even the call they make. For someone just turning seven, he seems to be a natural authority on birds. We were sitting on a picnic table one afternoon when a raven flew overhead, and he was quick to point out that it was one of his favorites. He happily shared his endless knowledge, and we compared notes.

The raven is the largest bird in the crow family and has an impressive lifespan of 40 to 50 years. While they’re known to feed on fruit, nuts, fish, and carrion, we’ve discovered that around Cowboy Creek they seem to prefer leftover huckleberry pancakes.

Ravens are considered one of the most intelligent birds, capable of solving problems and featured in many Native American legends — including stories of how man was created. They can soar effortlessly on the wind, and their familiar call can express tenderness, happiness, surprise, or anger. They also make excellent alarm clocks, rising at the crack of dawn, and are known to be playful — sometimes even pushing snow off rooftops onto folks below.

Raven is a full‑body puppet from the wonderful folks at Folkmanis and measures 20 inches long, 16 inches tall, and 8 inches wide. He has wing pockets for movement but does not stand alone as pictured. Made of all new material, polyester fiber, and surface washable.Raven is a full‑body puppet from the wonderful folks at Folkmanis and measures 20 inches long, 16 inches tall, and 8 inches wide.
